Supporting Ministry in Government Schools
The Diocese is committed to the maintenance of a quality public education system. It is supportive of parents who choose to send their children to public schools. It is also supportive of Christians who lead, teach and work in public education.
The Policy Statement on Education acknowledges the privilidge which we have to provide Special Religious Education (SRE) within Government primary and secondary schools. The Anglican Church, Diocese of Sydney is an approved provider by the NSW Department of Education and Training. The conditions under which SRE is provided are set out in the Policy on the Provision of Special Religious Education in Government Schools.
The Connect resources for teaching SRE are available from Christian Education Publications and consist of:
Beginning with God
Introduces the Christian faith to students in their first year of school. The one-year program of 40 lessons assumes little prior knowledge. This forms the foundation for Connect in subsequent years.
Connect
For Infants, Lower and Upper Primary - develops the key components and themes of the Bible over a comprehensive three-year cycle (Years A, B and C) with a balance between the Old and New Testament teaching in the 20 lessons provided each semester.
Big Questions
For the last year of Primary School. Big Questions is designed for students who are ready to explore some big issues, share their own opinions and investigate the Bible for themselves.
Comprehensive resources for supporting SRE teachers are provided for all the resources listed, as well as full-colour student activity books. View Scope and Sequence.
